100 Classic Toys Museum Exhibition
100 CLASSIC TOYS
MUSEUM EXHIBITION
MISSION STATEMENT
In this exhibition, you will experience the characteristics of the book “100 Classic Toys” by David Smith that this exhibition is inspired from. It takes you and your children through a journey from enormous sculptures of toys in different sizes and to interactive displays.
Some toys seem to have been around forever, while others dissapear from sight almost before the box has been opened. Toys, which had gone into a decline reappear and suddenly become the gift that every child wants. Who would have thought that Mr. Potato Head would stage his come back with a new generation?
What is it that makes a toy become a classic? For our 100 classic toys, there are probably 100 reasons why a particular toy stood out from it’s competitors. Perhaps the limitless creative possibilities of the LEGO brick, the timeless appeal of the dolls’ house, the comforting presence of a favourite bear, or the excitement of running an electric train? Whatever the secret, these toys and games have earned a special place in the hearts of millions of children (and former children).
This exhibition looks at the stories behind the toys. Some were always destined to become classics, others surprised everyone with their popularity (including their manufacturers) and still more have enjoyed an unexpected revival thanks to their appearance in movies and the proliferation of on-line dealers and sites.
